Scattering analysis of high performance large sandwich radomes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Large radomes are assembled from many panels connected together forming joints or seams. When the panels are type A sandwiches that are optimized for minimum transmission loss over moderately narrow bandwidths, the seams and joints introduce scattering effects that can degrade the overall electromagnetic performance. Tuning the dielectric seams with conductive wires and optimizing their geometry is, therefore, crucial to enhancing the electromagnetic performance of the radome. The authors address the problem of systematically tuning the dielectric seams and present both numerical and experimental results to illustrate the tuning procedure. Included are results showing the effect of the tuning of the radome on the radiation of an enclosed aperture of circular or elliptic shape  相似文献

The two most widely used polymers in packaging in recent years are polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyethylene (PE). The biggest fractions of these polymers are not re-utilized, in spite of the fact that they possess excellent properties even after their first application. The ban on using recycled polymers in food packaging applications and the lack of good value outlets for these materials causes them to end up in landfills. The high cost nylon, used in packaging primarily as high gas barrier laminates with PE, also finds its way to landfills. In this case, the reason is the difficulty of recycling different polymers that are incompatible. Thus, the Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) stream transferred to landfills contains many plastic packages. These packages are being blamed as a major pollutant of the environment in spite of the fact that all plastics contribute only a small percentage to the weight of the garbage in landfills. If proper and cost effective applications for the recycled polymers could be developed, the waste related to their disposal could be limited. In addition, the contribution of plastic packages to the environmental problem could be diminished. In the present paper, the possibility of sandwiching a contaminated PET layer between two layers of the virgin material was studied. The aim of the study was to determine whether such an operation could lower the migration level of contaminants from a multilayer structure (containing a recycled layer of PET) to values below the limits required by regulatory agencies. The diffusion coefficients (required to determine migration) of four organic liquids in PET were determined. As a result of the sandwiching operation, the amount of pollutant (toluene) migrating into the food simulant was reduced by two orders of magnitude. The properties of PE/nylon blends were also studied. It was found that the high gas barrier properties of nylon are preserved in the blend when proper processing conditions are used. Therefore, the recycled material could be used as a centre layer in a multilayer structure providing good gas barrier properties to this structure.  相似文献

A set of floating electrodes and a relatively thick buffer layer of low-dielectric constant is interspaced between the coplanar RF transmission line and the LiNbO3 substrate containing the optical wave-guide structure. The composite structure is designed to feature a 50-Ω characteristic impedance, to have an effective dielectric constant equal to that of the optical wave for close velocity match, and to have a 3 dB bandwidth of 40 GHz. The purpose of the floating electrodes is to optimize the modulation sensitivity resulting in an improvement of about 6 dB. As a result, the RF power required for full modulation is lower than heretofore reported changing over the range from below 2 GHz to 20 GHz, from 44 mW to less than 70 mW. The close agreement between the theoretical and experimental values of the design parameters demonstrates the usefulness of the quasistatic assumption in the analysis of the composite structure  相似文献

The selectivity of a sequence of isothermal irreversible heterogeneous reactions
within a catalytic pellet is investigated under conditions where intraparticle forced convection is a non-negligible transport mechanism. The nature of the effect of the internal filter flow depends mostly on the value of the Thiele modulus, φ2, of the desired (middle) species. The asymptotic values of the selectivity, as φ2 → 0 and φ2 → ∞, are unaltered, independent of the strength of the internal flow. The intermediate region is divided into two parts. In the subregion with lower values of φ2 the selectivity is enhanced. In the other subregion, with higher values of φ2, the selectivity is significantly retarded to values which can be markedly below the lower asymptote. These trends are common to both poor and good selective catalysts.  相似文献

Three-layer coextruded blown (either blend or composite) films, made of low-density polyethylene and linear lowdensity polyethylene (1:1 ratio) of identical density, were compared. The tensile properties of both systems are nearly as high as those of the linear polyethylene while high strain rate properties including impact strength and tear resistance of the composite film are superior. Some structural insight was obtained by thermal analysis and thermoelastic measurements. Structure property relationships are discussed in light of the unique behavior, structure, and morphology of linear low-density polyethylene. The two polyethylenes are only compatible to a rather limited extent mainly affecting their blend behavior. However, a strong mutual reinforcement effect was observed.  相似文献

A theoretical model to analyze a covered rectangular antenna with an arbitrary dielectric constant superstrate is developed. The antenna is simulated by the radiation of two magnetic dipoles located at the radiating edges of the patch. The Green's function of an elementary magnetic dipole in a superstrate-substrate structure, utilizing spectral-domain analysis, is formulated, and the surface-wave and radiation field are computed. An improved transmission line model, which considers the stored energy near the radiating edges and the external mutual coupling, is used to compute the input impedances and radiation efficiency. Design considerations on the superstrate thickness and its dielectric constant are discussed. Experimental data for a single element and a 4×4 microstrip array is presented to validate the theory  相似文献

A simple Mathematica (version 7) code for computing S-state energies and wave functions of two-electron (helium-like) ions is presented. The elegant technique derived from the classical papers of Pekeris (1958, 1959, 1962, 1965, 1971) [1], [2] and [3] is applied. The basis functions are composed of the Laguerre functions. The method is based on the perimetric coordinates and specific properties of the Laguerre polynomials. Direct solution of the generalized eigenvalues and eigenvectors problem is used, distinct from the Pekeris works. No special subroutines were used, only built-in objects supported by Mathematica. The accuracy of the results and computation times depend on the basis size. The ground state and the lowest triplet state energies can be computed with a precision of 12 and 14 significant figures, respectively. The accuracy of the higher excited states calculations is slightly worse. The resultant wave functions have a simple analytical form, that enables calculation of expectation values for arbitrary physical operators without any difficulties. Only three natural parameters are required in the input.The above Mathematica code is simpler than the earlier version (Liverts and Barnea, 2010 [4]). At the same time, it is faster and more accurate.

The output of LC-MS metabolomics experiments consists of mass-peak intensities identified through a peak-picking/alignment procedure. Besides imperfections in biological samples and instrumentation, data accuracy is highly dependent on the applied algorithms and their parameters. Consequently, quality control (QC) is essential for further data analysis. Here, we present a QC approach that is based on discrepancies between replicate samples. First, the quantile normalization of per-sample log-signal distributions is applied to each group of biologically homogeneous samples. Next, the overall quality of each replicate group is characterized by the Z-transformed correlation coefficients between samples. This general QC allows a tuning of the procedure's parameters which minimizes the inter-replicate discrepancies in the generated output. Subsequently, an in-depth QC measure detects local neighborhoods on a template of aligned chromatograms that are enriched by divergences between intensity profiles of replicate samples. These neighborhoods are determined through a segmentation algorithm. The retention time (RT)-m/z positions of the neighborhoods with local divergences are indicative of either: incorrect alignment of chromatographic features, technical problems in the chromatograms, or to a true biological discrepancy between replicates for particular metabolites. We expect this method to aid in the accurate analysis of metabolomics data and in the development of new peak-picking/alignment procedures.  相似文献

Immobilized TiO2 nanotube electrodes with high surface areas were grown via electrochemical anodization in aqueous solution containing fluoride ions for photocatalysis applications. The photoelectrochemical properties of the grown immobilized TiO2 film were studied by potentiodynamic measurements (linear sweep voltammetry), in addition to the calculation of the photocurrent response. The nanotube electrode properties were compared to mesoporous TiO2 electrodes grown by anodization in sulfuric acid at high potentials (above the microsparking potential) and to 1 g/l P-25 TiO2 powder. Photocatalyst films were evaluated by high resolution SEM and XRD for surface and crystallographic characterization. Finally, photoelectrocatalytic application of TiO2 was studied via inactivation of E. coli. The use of the high surface area TiO2 nanotubes resulted in a high photocurrent and an extremely rapid E. coli inactivation rate of ∼106 CFU/ml bacteria within 10 min. The immobilized nanotube system is proven to be the most potent electrode for water purification.  相似文献
